Description

Words: A Studio Notebook A collection of phrases and sentences that have inspired renowned South African artist William Kentridge over several years. These excerpts, compiled in a studio notebook titled Words, are the starting point for many of his artistic projects. Kentridge has drawn upon a wide range of sources, including poetry from Aimé Césaire, Yehuda Amichai, and eastern European poets, as well as proverbs from Setswana and biblical texts. The resulting selection presents a thoughtful arrangement of phrases that neither follow a clear agenda nor are presented randomly. Beautifully designed by the artist and produced with care, Words offers a unique insight into the creative process of a contemporary artist.
