Description
Detailed social and cultural commentary accompanies this volume on Kerala's wooden architecture. Miki Desai's work explores the socio-cultural and tectonic aspects of this distinctive style, which is rooted in religious and secular customs and shaped by geo-climatic forces. The author's multi-disciplinary approach links various ethnic groups residing in Kerala, highlighting the mutual adoption and adaptation of construction systems within migrant groups. This book provides a unique insight into the traditional ways of building in India, which have not received sufficient academic attention despite serving millions of people. Published in association with DC School of Architecture and Design, this volume aims to fill the research gap in vernacular architecture, as the built environment continues to evolve at an accelerated pace.
