Description
Witney Through Time explores the rich history of this Cotswold town. From its origins as a deliberate planning project by successive Bishops of Winchester to its growth into a populous market town, the book delves into the fascinating story of Witney's development. The textile industry played a significant role in the town's economy, with five mills operating in and around Witney by 1800. However, the closure of the last mill in 2002 marked the end of an era. This fully illustrated narrative brings the history of Witney to life, shedding light on the town's past and its significance as a centre for blanket manufacturing. With its unique blend of historical context and visual appeal, Witney Through Time is a valuable resource for anyone looking to learn more about this charming Cotswold town.
