Description

Whale! by Kim Leilani Evans offers a fresh and unconventional approach to Moby Dick. This book explores the connections between Herman Melville's novel and Ludwig Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations, arguing that they share a common project. Evans examines Melville's work as a tale of affection rather than vengeance, and finds in Ahab's hunt for Moby Dick a longing for connection and meaning. She also discovers a way to reconnect matter with meaning, object with knowledge, in the face of skeptical views on language and knowledge. Through its original reading of one of America's most studied books, Whale! makes a compelling argument about common political projects in literature and philosophy.
