Description

A comedy drama about an all-female theatre company touring Britain during World War Two, We Happy Few explores the power of performance to bring culture and hope to a war-torn nation. In 1920s Britain, as the men are fighting Hitler and the bombs fall on London, a 'girls only' theatre company sets out in a battered Rolls-Royce to share Shakespeare with a starved culture. Inspired by the real-life Osiris Players, whose travelling productions during the War inspired many to take up the profession, Imogen Stubbs' play We Happy Few premiered at the Gielgud Theatre in the West End in June 2004. The production was directed by Trevor Nunn and starred Juliet Stevenson and Patsy Palmer. This drama is a testament to the enduring power of theatre to bring people together and provide solace during times of hardship.
