Description

William Carlos Williams' unique volume, I Wanted to Write a Poem, presents an informal conversation about his works. In the 1950s, Dr. Williams and his wife discussed his poetry in their home library with Edith Heal, a student at Columbia University. This "talking" bibliography reveals the circumstances surrounding the creation of his books. The conversations, which took place over several years, uncovered forgotten dedications, reviews tucked away in book pages, and handwritten corrections. The resulting autobiography is a nostalgic review of the early twentieth-century literary world. Through this collection, Williams shares memories of his writing process and the people involved in its creation.
