Description
Walter Benjamin Overpowering Conformism by Esther Leslie offers a fresh perspective on the work of a key twentieth-century political thinker. By examining the entirety of Benjamin's oeuvre, rather than focusing on select essays, Leslie provides powerful new insights into his ideas and their historical context. Leslie's study corrects the post-structuralist bias that has characterised much Benjamin scholarship, repositioning his work in its social and cultural context. Her analysis of Benjamin's commentary on technology, from industrial culture to Nazi deployment of the bomber, offers a lucid and cogently argued new understanding of his writings. This book provides a nuanced exploration of Benjamin's thought, shedding light on the politics and aesthetics of his ideas.
