Description

Wagner's Ring by Charles Ellis offers a fresh perspective on Richard Wagner's epic composition. This study explores not only the sources that influenced Wagner but also what was deliberately excluded, revealing new insights into the composer's creative process. By reimagining the medieval Sigurd myth as a ritual sacrifice, Ellis brings Siegfried to the forefront of the drama, highlighting the complex relationship between He and Wotan. The author delves into Schopenhauer's philosophy, providing a unique interpretation that sheds new light on Wagner's musical development over the 20 years of composition. With its in-depth analysis, this book provides a comprehensive understanding of Wagner's Ring, making it an essential resource for anyone interested in music, drama, or the composer's life and work.
