Description
Francisco de Vitoria's Political Writings is a collection of essays that shaped modern absolutism and the debate about imperialism. Written in the 16th century, these texts offer insights into the rise of European powers and their impact on the world. Translated into English for the first time, this volume brings together the core of Vitoria's thought, which was originally delivered as summaries at the end of his lecture courses. The collection is accompanied by a comprehensive introduction, chronology, and bibliography, making it an essential resource for specialists in political theory, ecclesiastical history, and the history of early modern Spain. This edition provides access to Vitoria's unique perspective on civil and ecclesiastical power, as well as his defence of indigenous peoples against imperialism.
