Description
Vince Guaraldi at the Piano is a comprehensive biography that sheds new light on the life and career of the jazz pianist. Although his association with the Peanuts animated television specials is well-known, Guaraldi's own musical journey remains largely unheralded. This extensively updated second edition chronicles Guaraldi's early years as a sideman, his exploration of the bossa nova sound, and his collaborations with Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete. It also delves into his development of the Grace Cathedral Jazz Mass and his work on Charlie Brown's iconic theme music. The book provides a nuanced understanding of Guaraldi's emergence as a respected veteran in the Northern California jazz scene of the 1970s. With new material added to acknowledge the growing recognition of Guaraldi's contributions, this biography offers a fresh perspective on a jazz legend whose place in the universe has grown exponentially since its initial publication.
