Description
For man walketh in a vain shadow, he keeps up riches and cannot tell who shall gather them. At Colonel Winthorpe's funeral, this phrase is echoed as his granddaughter Joanna is the only one to mourn him with genuine emotion. The four days following his death are marked by formalities and proprieties that obscure the reality of his life. The arrangements for his burial, the distribution of his wealth, and the final disposition of his remains all serve to highlight the emptiness of those who knew him. Yet, amidst this sea of pretence, Joanna's desire to live more fully is palpable. As the family gathers to settle their affairs, it becomes clear that only Joanna has the capacity to break free from the shadows of her grandfather's legacy and forge a new path forward.
