Description

Ulysses Jenkins Without Your Interpretation is the first major retrospective on the groundbreaking Los Angeles-based video artist Ulysses Jenkins. Since the 1970s, Jenkins has explored how white supremacy is embedded in popular culture through his work with Video Venice News and Studio Z, as well as his own video and performance pieces. This catalog features an extensive portion of Jenkins' archive, including early documentary films, photographs, and ephemera, alongside his video art. The publication offers a unique insight into the artist's practice, from his early days as a painter and muralist to his adoption of video technology in the 1970s. With this comprehensive collection, readers can gain a deeper understanding of Jenkins' work and its significance in the context of contemporary art.
