The Ba'al Cycle: Ancient Stories from Ugarit The Ba'al Cycle is a collection of stories about the supreme god Ba'al Hadad in ancient Canaanite mythology. These stories were written on clay tablets discovered at the ruins of Ugarit, an ancient city in northwest Syria. The texts are divided into two main sections: Victorious Ba'al and Ba'al Defeats Mot. The earliest section appears to have been translated from ancient Egyptian, while the later section is thought to come from an old Akkadian text that retold a Hurrian and Hattic story about two gods descending into the underworld. This series of translations provides valuable insights into the mythology and culture of ancient Canaanite civilization.
