Description

Turkey: Modern Architectures in History offers a comprehensive journey through Turkey's iconic buildings from the end of World War I to the present day. This richly informative history explores modern institutional masterpieces and architect-designed buildings, including informal residential plans that have evolved significantly over time. The book places modern Turkish architecture within its larger social, political, and cultural context, providing a unique perspective on the country's development as a modern nation in the twentieth century. By examining the built environment of Turkey, readers can gain a deeper understanding of the country's transformation through globalization, economic integration, and a renewed appreciation for its Islamic heritage. This book provides a perceptive overview of modern Turkish architecture, one that goes beyond typical surveys of Western modern architecture to tackle the often-omitted modern and contemporary periods in studies of Islamic art and architecture.
