Description
Truth Street A Hillsborough Poem by David Cain The 15 April 1989 FA Cup semi-final disaster at Hillsborough Stadium remains one of the UK's most tragic sporting events, claiming 96 lives and injuring thousands more. For nearly thirty years, survivors and families of the dead fought against those blamed for the tragedy. In 2016, a second inquest ruled that supporters were unlawfully killed due to police and ambulance failures. To mark the 30th anniversary of this devastating event, David Cain's Truth Street combines eyewitness testimonies from the second inquest with an epic poem. Inspired by Charles Reznikoff and Svetlana Alexietich, this work is part oral history and part documentary theatre. First performed at the Utter Lutonia festival and Brighton Festival in 2017, it offers a powerful and poignant account of that fateful day. This book brings together the voices of those who witnessed and survived the tragedy, creating a unique and moving tribute to the victims and their families.
