Description
Truth in History by Oscar Handlin offers a scathing critique of the current state of academic scholarship. In this 17-chapter analysis, Handlin argues that partisanship has undermined the calling of historical research, leading to a loss of objectivity and intellectual honesty. Handlin's work is rooted in his own experience as a historian and scholar, drawing on five decades of reading, writing, teaching, researching, and publishing. His concerns about the field have proven remarkably prescient, and this book remains relevant today. Valuable for scholars across various disciplines, including sociology, economics, political science, and history, Truth in History is a worthwhile read for those contemplating a career in liberal arts scholarship.
