Smuts, persuaded him to return home after four years in exile on Madagascar. Reitz describes an often-overlooked theatre of the war as they continued their campaign into Germany's African Colonies, serving alongside Smuts once more. The memoir carries him towards the Western Front and the final years of the war, fighting with the British but not for them. This account is a personal and stirring record of Reitz's experiences during this period. Trekking On is the second of three volumes that Deneys Reitz wrote about his life, offering a unique perspective on one of the most significant conflicts of the 20th century.
