Description
A mysterious sphere has been discovered off the coast of California, capable of transporting people to other solar systems. Death-row inmate Russell Harris and nine other convicts are given the chance to save their own lives by agreeing to travel as test subjects on the transporter. However, when the first volunteer dies a gruesome death, it becomes clear that the venture is little more than a merciless death mission. The remaining prisoners must then uncover the secret of the mysterious object in order to survive. But with no trace of the transporter's constructors to be found, their chances seem hopeless. This gripping science fiction novel explores the consequences of playing with forces beyond human control, and the desperate measures that must be taken to escape a deadly fate.
