Description

The Panavia Tornado was designed as a multi-role combat aircraft to meet the needs of Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. Since its prototype flew in 1974, nearly 1000 Tornados have been produced in various variants serving as a fighter-bomber, fighter, reconnaissance, and electronic suppression roles. Deployed operationally in numerous theaters throughout the world, the Tornado has proved to be exceptionally capable and flexible. Its capabilities have adapted over time, from early Cold War roles to expeditionary warfare in The Gulf, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. Lavishly illustrated with photographs by Darren Willmin, this book showcases the machine's versatility both on the ground and in the air. The book features a unique collection of images, including some of David Gledhill's own air-to-air pictures of the Tornado F2 and F3, offering an insight into life in the cockpit of the aircraft.
