Description
John Greening's verse letters to the war poets span a century since the outbreak of the First World War. In this sequence, he explores "Englishness" while also offering an alternative perspective through translations from other poets.
The connection between conflict and the presence or threat of conflict underlies Greening's work, from the discovery of Sutton Hoo just before the Second World War to the security forces' actions in 2006. This precise and unsentimental address provides a unique perspective on the centenary of the Great War.
