Description

Tiny Lights for Travellers by Naomi K. Lewis is a powerful memoir that explores the author's journey to understand her family's past and her own identity as a Jewish Canadian. When Naomi Lewis discovers a diary belonging to her beloved Opa, she sets out to retrace his escape from Nazi-occupied Netherlands in 1942. Her travels take her from Amsterdam to Lyon, uncovering secrets about her family's history and forcing her to confront the impact of the Holocaust on subsequent generations. With vulnerability, humour, and wisdom, Lewis asks tough questions about her identity as a secular Jew and the accuracy of family stories, offering a nuanced exploration of what it means to be Jewish in Canada today.
