Description

Time and Narrative, Volume 1 is a seminal work by Paul Ricoeur that explores the relationship between time and narrative. Ricoeur examines how meaning is created at the textual level, with narrative as the primary concern.

The author proposes a theoretical model of this circle, drawing on Augustine's theory of time and Aristotle's theory of plot, to understand the mimetic function of narrative. This work also provides a comprehensive survey and critique of modern discussions of historical knowledge, understanding, and writing.

Published in 1984, Time and Narrative is a significant contribution to philosophy of history and literary criticism, offering new insights into the nature of meaning and narrative.
