Thomas Summers & Co Boatbuilders of Fraserburgh is a story of resilience and innovation in the post-war fishing industry. Following the end of hostilities in 1945, the fishing community quickly sought to rebuild and restore their fleet. In Fraserburgh, Scotland's east coast, several established yards catered to this demand, but it wasn't long before a new yard emerged on the breakwater. Three local apprentices from one of these yards took the bold step of setting up their own boatbuilding yard in 1948. Thomas Summers & Co. was born, and over the next thirteen years, they produced eighty-eight fishing vessels that would become synonymous with fine seaworthy craft. Many of these boats still exist today, some continuing to work as fishing vessels while others have been converted for pleasure. This book tells the story of Thomas Summers & Co. through a combination of historic records and personal memories, accompanied by striking photographs of their remarkable creations.
