Description
At fifty-four, Bill Veeck took on the challenge of managing Suffolk Downs racetrack in Boston. With characteristic determination, he marshaled his forces and set out to make a name for himself as a track operator. Veeck's story is one of battles won and lost, fun had, and unexpected discoveries about horse racing. In his trademark style, he recounts the ups and downs of life at "Sufferin' Downs," revealing the inner workings of America's most popular sport with wit and candour. This memoir offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of horse racing, as seen through the eyes of one of its most colourful characters.
