Description
Sir Peter Westmacott's memoirs offer a unique insight into the world of diplomacy, revealing the realities behind the glamour of ambassadorial life. With a career spanning forty years in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Westmacott shares his experiences of navigating global politics, from the last decade of the Cold War to the post-9/11 era. From his postings in Turkey, France, and the United States during Barack Obama's presidency, to his time at the European Commission in Brussels, Westmacott provides an engaging account of life in the upper echelons of diplomacy. He also mounts a vigorous defence of the role of diplomats in today's fast-paced world, highlighting recent successes of British diplomacy. Through his stories, Westmacott offers a nuanced portrayal of global leaders and the complex issues they face, providing a valuable perspective on the ongoing relevance of diplomacy in international relations.
