Description
The Vikings presents a fresh overview of these fascinating people from both conceptual and material perspectives. A common image of a Viking is that of a fierce male associated with military expansion and distinctive material culture.
Sæbjørg Walaker Nordeide and Kevin J. Edwards analyse Viking religion, economic life and material culture in and beyond the Scandinavian homelands. The Vikings' military expeditions began earlier than commonly thought and extended eastwards, reaching as far as Constantinople.
Their activities also had a significant impact on southern France, Iberia, Great Britain and Ireland, with trade, invasion and settlement occurring across these regions. The Vikings' legacy continues to resonate in the popular imagination today.
