Description
The Trial by Franz Kafka is a novel about a man arrested and prosecuted by an inaccessible authority, with his crime revealed to neither him nor the reader. This heavily influenced work draws parallels with Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov. Written between 1914 and 1915, The Trial was never completed in its original form. However, it does include a chapter that brings the story to an end. After Kafka's death in 1924, his friend Max Brod edited the text for publication by Verlag Die Schmiede. The original manuscript is held at the Museum of Modern Literature in Germany. First published in English in 1937, this novel has been widely regarded as one of the most important works of the 20th century.
