Description
The Tilbury Poppies: Can the Factory Girls Work Together for a Better Future? In 1916, the outbreak of war brings about significant changes for women in Essex. Lily, a housemaid at St Clere's Hall, is forced to leave her home and take up work in a factory making explosives to support the war effort. The harsh conditions and dangers of the job are compounded by a patronising boss and the arrival of Lady Charlotte, the pampered daughter of the Hall, who joins the factory as a supervisor. As Lily and Charlotte navigate their new roles, they must confront difficult choices and challenges in the shadow of the Great War. Against this backdrop of wartime England, a heartwarming story of love, loss, and friendship unfolds. Sue Wilsher's novel is a well-written and absorbing tale that explores the experiences of women during WWI.
