The Tiger from Poznań by Richard Siegert is a gripping account of one man's experience during World War II. In January 1945, as the Red Army approached, a garrison of German civilians and soldiers was hastily evacuated, leaving behind a small group of defenders to face an enemy vastly superior in numbers and firepower. Siegert, the gunner and commander of the defenders' sole Tiger tank, recounts his crew's desperate fight against impossible odds. Despite being immobilized at times, the Tiger played a crucial role in the final days of the siege, serving as a stationary antitank gun post or pillbox to defend the citadel. This is Siegert's personal account of that fateful period, passed down from his own experiences and those of his crew.
