Description

The Sweet Science of Bruising by Joy Wilkinson In 1869, four women from different walks of life are drawn into the world of female boxing by Professor Sharp. As they navigate this new and unconventional sport, they find an unexpected freedom that challenges the constraints of their lives. Their journey takes them through various settings, from grand drawing rooms to rowdy pubs, where they fight not only each other but also against the inequality that surrounds them. With the final showdown approaching, only one can become the Lady Boxing Champion of the World. Joy Wilkinson's play is an epic tale of passion, politics and pugilism, which premiered at Southwark Playhouse in London in October 2018.
