Description
Judith Mok's memoir, The State of Dark, is a powerful and moving account of her experiences as a Second Generation survivor of the Holocaust. Born to Jewish parents in post-war Holland, Judith was raised with the emotional trauma of having no extended family, and the silence surrounding her hundreds of relatives who died in the camps. As she trained as a classical singer and performed around the world, Judith was repeatedly confronted with the Holocaust. A shocking discovery made over the phone in 2017 led to a revelation about the terrible fate of her family, which is revealed in intimate detail in this memoir. This book offers a unique perspective on the ongoing impact of the Holocaust on European life and culture, and is a testament to Judith Mok's courage in sharing her story.
