Description
In this haunting novel, Antonio Di Benedetto explores the darker side of ambition and creativity. A young man in a Latin American city during the early 1950s struggles to find inspiration for his writing career. He becomes fixated on the idea of writing a detective novel, but first needs to establish a sense of control over his life. In a twisted attempt to kickstart his career, he considers planning a crime, choosing a victim among those closest to him. This dark thought experiment is both a commentary on the societal pressures that stifle artistic expression and a deeply personal exploration of the human condition. Di Benedetto's The Silentiary is part of a trilogy that has been hailed as one of the most significant works of 20th-century narrative fiction in Spanish.
