Description
The Ring Ouzel: A View from the North York Moors is a comprehensive guide to this iconic bird species. Using extracts from field notebooks and photographs, Vic Fairbrother and Ken Hutchinson bring the reader into the beautiful world of the North York Moors National Park. As the first Ring Ouzels return from their winter quarters in Africa, the authors share in the excitement of witnessing courtship displays, territory establishment, and nest-building. The book also delves into the complexities of the Ring Ouzel's song, comparing local dialects with recordings from Scotland, Derbyshire, and the Yorkshire Dales. This milestone publication not only records twenty years' fieldwork but also builds on earlier research, relating local findings to current studies in England, Wales, and Scotland. The authors shed light on the challenges faced by migrant birds like the Ring Ouzel, particularly during their stop-over and refuelling periods in Britain.
