Description

The Return of the Soldier by Rebecca West A spellbinding novel about love and memory, The Return of the Soldier tells the story of a soldier who returns from the front to find that his memories of his past life are fragmented and unreliable. His wife, Kitty, and his devoted cousin Jenny wait for him in their home on the crest of Harrow-weald, but he can only recall one woman - Margaret Allington, his first love fifteen years before. As the soldier struggles to come to terms with his new reality, the women around him must make a choice: to leave him as he wishes or to try and 'cure' him. It is Margaret who reveals a love so great that she can make the final sacrifice. This novel, part of the VMC 40th anniversary series, explores themes of love, memory and identity in a powerful and moving way.
