The Pre-Islamic Coinage of Eastern Arabia by Daniel T. Potts is a detailed study of the indigenous coin issues that circulated in the region during the pre-Islamic era. Based on a corpus of 529 coins from five private collections, this work presents a comprehensive classification of these ancient coins. The coins under examination originated from two distinct regions, now part of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia and the Emirate of Umm al-Qaiwain in the UAE. Foreign issues were relatively rare in these areas, with only a handful of Sasanian, Roman, Seleucid, Greek, Phoenician, Nabataean, Elymaean, Parthian, and Sabaean coins documented. This book provides an in-depth analysis of the pre-Islamic coinage of Eastern Arabia, shedding light on the cultural and economic exchange networks that existed in the region during this period.
