Description
Lorenzo Chiesa examines the treatment of logic and God in Lacan's later psychoanalytic theory in this philosophical work. Drawing from Lacan's Seminars of the early 1970s, Chiesa explores how "There is no sexual relationship" - a central axiom in Lacan's thought - is both empirically grounded in psychoanalysis and self-evident in everyday life. Chiesa argues that our love and sex lives are shaped by the impossibility of fusing contradictory being with the heteros of woman, leading to a transcendental logic that sustains sexual liaisons. This logic is distinct from mainstream biological discourse and challenges traditional onto-theology. By developing a new logic of sexuation based on incompleteness, Chiesa seeks to debunk traditional notions of life and evolution. This book provides a close reading of Lacan's effort to formalize sexual difference as incompleteness and assesses its broader implications for philosophical realism and materialism.
