Description
The Nordic Civil Sphere by Jeffrey C. Alexander, Anna Lund and Andrea Voyer explores the concept of the civil sphere in modern societies, shedding new light on Nordic countries' unique social democracy. This volume emphasizes the cultural foundations and characteristics of social democracy, highlighting how civil sensibilities are necessary for creating an egalitarian and democratic state. The authors examine the distinctive experiences of Nordic nations to reflect on and advance the theory of the civil sphere. Nordic societies have long been admired for their distinct form of social democracy, but this achievement has not been well conceptualized theoretically. This book aims to address this gap by focusing on the cultural aspects of social democracy and demonstrating how civil sensibilities contribute to the creation of an egalitarian state.
