Description
The Make-Believe Space: A Study of Postwar Politics and Social Relations in Northern Cyprus. This ethnography explores the sociality of Turkish-Cypriots in a newly formed geography, shaped by the displacement of Greek-Cypriot inhabitants after the partition of Cyprus. Yael Navaro-Yashin examines the administration and raison d'être of the unrecognized state in Northern Cyprus through the lens of affect theory, challenging traditional boundaries between competing theoretical orientations. By developing a nuanced methodology for studying subjectivity and affect, materiality and the phantasmatic, Navaro-Yashin creates a subtle and insightful ethnography of life in the long-term aftermath of war. The result is a thought-provoking exploration of how people navigate and make sense of their surroundings in the face of uncertainty and change. Pages: 270 Binding: Paperback
