Description
The Lewiston Shootings: An All-American Tragedy On October 25, 2023, a sense of security was shattered in Lewiston, a small city in central Maine. A night that began like any other ended with devastating violence at two popular gathering places: the Just-in-Time Recreation Center and Schemengees bowling alley, and a sports bar and restaurant. Robert Card II, an Army Reserve soldier with deep-seated paranoia, walked into both locations with a high-powered rifle, killing 18 people and wounding 13 more. The tragedy was that warning signs had been missed, allowing the tragedy to unfold. A combination of inadequate gun control laws and negligence by law enforcement and military authorities contributed to this tragic outcome. In THE LEWISTON SHOOTINGS: An All-American Tragedy, author Robert Conlin examines the events leading up to the shootings and their aftermath, shedding light on a community forever changed by the tragedy.
