Description

The Letter and the Spirit by Robert M. Grant explores the methods of biblical interpretation used by ancient writers, including those known for their use of allegory. Dr. Grant examines the development of Greek theories of poetry interpretation and how these influenced Jewish and Christian writers. He delves into the exegesis of sacred writings, tracing the evolution of Patristic methods from Xenophanes to Clement of Alexandria and Origen. This study offers a fascinating look at the ways in which ancient interpreters approached the Bible, shedding new light on their subject matter. Grant's erudition over a wide field of scholarship provides valuable insights into the meaning of inspiration and the work of the Fathers, making this book an engaging read for those interested in biblical studies.
