Description

The Last U-Boats by H. Coffman is a gripping account of the last two German submarines to surrender after World War II. In December 1945, these two Unterseebootes arrived in Argentina, more than three months after Germany's formal surrender. Their commanders, Otto Wermuth and Heinz Schaffer, chose to sail thousands of miles to this distant port, leaving behind ship logs and personal identifications that have never been fully explained. What drove them to make such a bold decision? Did they follow orders or act on their own initiative? The story of U-Boat U-530 and U-977 remains shrouded in mystery, with many legends and speculations surrounding these submarines. This book offers a detailed look at this intriguing chapter in history.
