The Invention of Ecocide: Agent Orange, Vietnam, and the Scientists Who Changed the Way We Think About the Environment by David Zierler. This convergence led to Operation Ranch Hand, a joint US-South Vietnamese mission to use herbicidal warfare as a means to defoliate enemy territory. Their findings, confirmed by access to sprayed zones in 1970, revealed a major ecological disaster. This discovery convinced the US government to renounce the first use of herbicides in future wars, fundamentally reorienting thinking about warfare and environmental security over the next forty years.
