Description
The Inner World of Trauma explores the interior world of dream and fantasy images encountered in therapy with individuals who have suffered unbearable life experiences. These images, which serve as defenses to protect the self, can become malevolent and destructive, leading to further trauma.
Donald Kalsched examines how this phenomenon occurs, drawing on detailed clinical material and connecting Jungian theory and practice with contemporary object relations theory and dissociation theory. He also discusses the role of addiction, psychosomatic disorder, and dissociation in treatment, as well as the universal images of myth and folklore.
By focusing on the archaic defenses of the self, Kalsched sheds light on how an inner self-care system tries to save the personal spirit, revealing a spiritual problem at its core. This insightful book provides a compelling understanding of trauma and its treatment.
