Description
Elizabeth A. Povinelli's graphic memoir explores the complex relationships within her family and their ancestral village in Trentino, Alto Adige. The framed map that hangs above her family television serves as a powerful symbol of their shared history and its ongoing impact on their lives. Through a series of interconnected stories, Povinelli delves into the events and traumas that have shaped her own life and the broader American story. She examines how patterns of violence, dislocation, racism, and structural inequality have influenced not only individual experiences but also the nation's collective narrative. By probing the intersections of nationality, ethnicity, kinship, religion, and belonging, Povinelli sheds light on the tensions between historical facts and the stories we tell ourselves to cope with them.
