Description

The Heart Sutra Explained: Uncovering the Meaning Behind Buddhist Scripture. This book offers new insights into one of Buddhism's most famous scriptures, the Heart Sutra. Donald S. Lopez draws on previously unexamined commentaries to explore how the sutra was interpreted and understood during a significant period in Indian Buddhist history. The author examines key concepts such as "form is emptiness, emptiness is form" and the mantra "gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha". The book also includes complete translations of two 19th-century Tibetan commentaries that shed light on the selective appropriation of Indian sources.
