Description
A new translation of the Gospels by renowned scholar and translator Sarah Ruden offers a fresh perspective on these canonical texts. Grounded in contemporary languages, literatures, and cultures, this masterful translation presents the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John as books to be read and understood on their own terms. Faithfully pointing back to the original Greek, this translation reveals the complex origins, intricate interweavings, and inherent contradictions of these four separate versions of the same story. The result is a striking reappraisal of the Gospels, presenting a new appreciation of the ancient world as the foundation of our modern one. This robust and readable translation provides a welcoming ground for readers to engage with the accounts of Jesus' life and ministry, and offers a resource for new debate, discussion, and inspiration.
