Description

The Fox was Ever the Hunter A Novel by Herta Müller In the final months of the dictator's regime, life is a fragile existence. For Adina, a young schoolteacher, and her friends, the fear of discovery is ever-present. The arrival of a mysterious series of mutilations on her home - a fox fur rug with its tail cut off, then a hindleg, and finally a foreleg - sets off a chain of events that exposes the dark underbelly of their world. As Adina struggles to come to terms with what is happening to her, she must also confront the reality of living in a society where fear and paranoia are pervasive. The line between victim and perpetrator becomes increasingly blurred, leaving her to question everything she thought she knew about her world. Through a kaleidoscope of reflections, deflections, and deceit, Müller masterfully weaves together a narrative that is both haunting and thought-provoking.
