Description
The Founder of Cairo: al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah and his Era by Shainool Jiwa is an in-depth exploration of the reign of the fourth Fatimid Imam-caliph, who transformed the Fatimid state into a Mediterranean empire. This book provides the first annotated English translation of Idris 'Imad al-Din's monumental work, "Uyun al-akhbar wa funun al-athar", which offers a unique perspective on the Ismaili imamate and its history. The writings of Idris 'Imad al-Din, chief d'ai of the Yemeni Tayyib Ismailis, provide valuable insights into the Fatimid literary tradition and the history of the Fatimid dynasty. This translation sheds new light on the reign of al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah, who played a significant role in shaping the medieval Muslim world. Students of Ismaili history and thought, medieval Mediterranean history, and Muslim historiography will find this work particularly interesting, as it offers an insider's account of one of the most influential rulers of the medieval period.
