Description
The Fixed Period was first published in six instalments in Blackwood's Magazine from 1881 to 1882 and later released as a book. It also appeared in US and Tauchnitz editions the same year. This dystopian novel, written by Anthony Trollope, explores euthanasia as a solution to the problem of aging. Set in 1980 on the fictional island of Britannula, off the coast of New Zealand, The Fixed Period is presented as a personal account from the President of the republic. Written at a time when Trollope was 67 years old, the book reflects his thoughts on the island's recent history and its approach to dealing with aging. Published in 1882, this novel has been re-released after a long hiatus until 1981.
