Description
Sophie Calle's 1978-1981 photographs of an abandoned Hôtel du Palais d'Orsay are reassembled in this new work, which also incorporates her personal archive and writings. Forty years after her initial exploration, Calle revisits the site during lockdown, accompanied by a flashlight. The book presents a reconstruction of Calle's investigation notebook, combining her photographs with letters, invoices, and other artifacts that bring the past to life. This is supplemented by texts written by Jean-Paul Demoule, which weave fact and fiction together. Calle's work continues to explore the tensions between observation, reporting, secrecy, and the unsaid, as seen in her previous solo shows at major museums around the world and her representation of France at the Venice Biennale in 2007.
